Who doesn't know Holycow! the most famous steak restaurant in Jakarta! But have you noticed that there are differences Between "Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit" and "STEAK HOTEL by Holicow!"?

Surprisingly not everyone (even my friends) knew about Holycow! Well, here is the major difference from them. Look at their logo, "Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit" use white as their background, while "STEAK HOTEL by Holicow!" using red as their background. For their menu, they both served steak as their forte, and their sauce were also similar with each others. But if you look a little closer, you can find that there were a differences on their menus.

OK! Today, I am going to invite you to the Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit that located at the 1st Fl. of Cilandak Town Square. Their location is right beneath the Gold's Gym, the opposite direction from Matahari Department Store.

For sure, you will be amazed with the spacious and the capacities of this place. You can choose to sit on the smoking area or the non smoking area. Such a wonderful place to visit with your friends and colleagues. I love the warm-welcoming ambiance and homey interior design. Even though the seats was quite a little bit uncomfortable, I really enjoy walking to this place.

OK, before I go to the dishes, I will brief you how to ordered your steak.

First - choose the Meat!
You can choose your most favorite cow's part.
On Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit you can choose between:

Sirloin (4) is a good cut of meat that comes from the lower portion of the animal’s ribs, and it’s got more of the best cuts out there, such as the tenderloin and the top and bottom sirloins. It has fats on the corner that really juicy and full of flavor.

Rib Eye
A rib (2) cut of meat is arguably one of the finest cuts of meat from the cow. It’s here you’ll find the best cuts such as prime rib, short ribs and rib eye steaks, all of which are prized for their juiciness, tenderness, marbling, and superb flavor.

The tenderloin (5) is an oblong shape spanning two primal cuts: the short loin and the sirloin. It has two ends: the butt and the "tail". This muscle does very little work, so it is the most tender part of the beef.

Second - (Still) Choose the Meat!
Now, it is time to see your wallet.. Haha... If you have more budget, you can choose more tender meat like the Wagyu. But for further information, you can asked the waiter for enlightenment.

Third - How to cook your meat!
Rare: Cool RED Center
Medium Rare: Hot RED Center
Medium: Pink Throughout
Medium Well: Slight trace of Pink
Well Done: Browned throughout.

Fourth - Choose your sauce!
On Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit you can choose
- Home-made Mushroom Sauce -
- W Sauce -
- Buddy Special Sauce -
- Blackpepper Sauce -
- Barbecue Sauce -

Fifth - Choose your Side Dish!

For the side dish, I mean the vegetables. You can choose between sautéed spinach or green beans.

Sixth - Choose your Potato!
You can choose between the French Fries or the mashed potato

Seventh - Enjoy your Steak!

Sirloin BIG BITES! IDR 130,000

I ordered a 400gr Sirloin, cooked medium, with Barbecue Sauce, Sautéed spinach and mashed potato.

I don't know about you guys, but for me, Sirloin is the best cut that really suit with my palate. I really love the juicy fat that melt when it was cooked. Some people think that sirloin is the part where it has too much fat on the corner. But I think that those are the best part and the full of flavor!

Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit cooked this steak with perfection! I really enjoy the dish and it has a juicy pink interior. it was really tender and seasoned beautifully. Combined with my favorite sweet-sour barbecue sauce really makes my day!

I choose the big bites because the price and the size! It is a worth to try dish and such an indulging dish from Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit

Rib Eye BIG BITES! IDR 130,000

My friend ordered this 400gr Rib Eye, cooked well done, with homemade mushroom sauce, sautéed spinach and mashed potato.

Well, my friend love  this dish so much. But I am not a biggest fans of well done steak. I just think that it will reduce the juiciness and the richness of flavor. I do really admire how Holycow! STEAKHOUSE by Chef Afit cooked this steak well done. They slice it thin in the middle so it will cooked smooth through the center. Accompanied with sweet-savory and creamy mushroom sauce, makes this dish can be easily melt someone's heart who ate it.

Wagyu Tenderloin! IDR 185,000

One of my friends really love tenderloin, that is why she indulge herself with 200gr wagyu tenderloin, cooked well done, with barbecue sauce, green bean and mashed potato.

Once again, I don't know why did they choose to cooked the meat well done.. sigh... But well, maybe they love it cooked through the center, so the image of eating the meat rare will not crossed into their mind. But for your information, Beef, unlike certain other meats, does not need to be cooked through. Food-borne human illnesses are not normally found within a beef steak, though surfaces can potentially be contaminated from handling, and thus, very rare steak (seared on the outside and raw within) is generally accepted as safe.

One thing for sure, if you ordered this wagyu tenderloin, they will give you two kinds of dressing.

One thing that I really love Holycow! is, they served a free refill ice tea. you can choose your favorite ice tea like Lemon Tea, blackcurrant Tea or Green Tea. Well, my most favorite is the green tea!

have a great day and Godspeed ya'll!

Marutama Ramen

Marutama Ramen - Plaza Senayan

Have you ever go to Marutama Ramen at Plaza Senayan? This first Marutama Ramen in Jakarta is quite hidden. You have to go to the foodhall, go through Warung Kita, walkthrough the security and walk along the alley to find this place.

But even though it was hidden, this Marutama Ramen is always full with the Ramen enthusiast. Rumor said that Marutama Ramen is one of the best Ramen in Jakarta.

Actually, the outlet is not too big, but it has a friendly, warm and really nice ambiance.

To be noted, do not be surprised when you looked at the price. It is quite pricey and expensive for a lot of people. But you will find it soon!

Chawan Mushi | IDR 18,000
Steamed eggs custards with chicken and shimeji mushroom.

I always start my Japanese dining experience with this silky steamed eggs custard. It was quite hard to find a wonderful chawan mushi that really fit with my appetite.

For me, this chawan mushi from Marutama Ramen has a bold fishy odor. I think that the dashi no moto is quite overwhelming. But what makes this Chawan Mushi special is they put a piece of ginko nut on the top of the chawan mushi. It adds some texture and sweetness into the dish.

Tamago Ramen | IDR 71,000
Chicken soup Ramen with tamago "soft boiled flavored egg"

I really adore the broth. It has an elegance thickness, beautiful fragrance and awesome flavor.

For your information, Marutama Ramen was known for its wonderful and delicious Toripaitan soup! It was 100% pure chicken broth that made with no MSG. To make this Toripaitan soup, they need 5 hours daily cooking process and preparation. The soup itself must has a golden and glistening color with a silky texture and awesome taste.

Yup, 5 hours to make this toripaitan soup. If the soup was not in a perfect condition, they have to re-do it again until it reached the standardization. That is why it was so pricey. They invest the time and the ingredients to make this awesome toripaitan soup.

That wonderful soup was served along with homemade hakata-styled ramen noodle, half-boiled aji tamago and negi, and with melt-in-your-mouth char siew.

Zenbu Ramen | IDR 99,000
Chicken soup Ramen with favorite topping mixed together, perfect combination

On Zenbu Ramen, the Toripaitan soup was served along with the ramen noodle, half-boiled aji tamago, negi, aosa seaweed topping, complete with awesome char siew and mouth-drooling kakuni.

The kakuni is the king on this ramen. I never thought that this Japanese braised pork can be this silky and delicious! Beyond comparison, this kakuni is the best thing i have tasted so far.

If you aren't a pork eater, you have to try their half-boiled aji tamago. It was rewarded as "The Best Tamago" in Japan! It has unique texture that fully boiled at the surface but yet still half boiled on the inside. It was blended perfectly with the seasoning.

Well, for the conclusion, Marutama Ramen is one of the must try place for those who called them self as a ramen lover. Or it is a must try ramen restaurant for those who get bored with a thick and greasy ramen broth. And one more thing, you will be amazed if you can find this hidden place, It feels like your'e having a scavenger hunt in Plaza senayan.

have a great day and Godspeed!

[TIPS] PHOTOSHOP #2 - Adjusting Levels

7/02/2015 Soya Yanagawa 3 Comments

Hi guys,

Sometimes we can not avoid to take a yellowish photo. Especially if we were invited to some restaurants or events. We have to depends on their own lighting.

Since I barely touch the blitz, I often to take a yellowish pictures. Well, this is how I outmanoeuvre this picture to make it much better or less yellowish by using photoshop.

For those who have using photoshop, you might already know how to give adjustment by touching the Image options. But I just want to give you another option to adjust your picture by using "Adjustment Layer". If you cannot find the Layer window, you can go to "Window>Layers" or simply touch F7.

You just click the adjustment button on the layers page, and choose what kind of adjustment do you want. The adventages from this method, you still have your original picture. And you can edit it again and again until you have your favorite adjustment.

Well, Let me give you a tutorial for that.

OK, you might already know about the "high pass" and "Overlay" thing. But for you who are new to this website, you can see the previous  TIP (How to add more textures).

OK, to reduce the yellow color, I often to use "Levels".. You can just pushed the "adjustment layer" Button and pick "Levels..."

The Levels option will be shown like this. I often to click the "Auto" button. But sometimes, the auto button is not really helpful. So, This is how I manage to reduce the yellowish color

On the "RGB"Option, change it the "blue" first.

You can see the end of the colorchart number 1 was separated quite far from the white pointer (number2) Well, all you have to do is just click and drag the number 2 pointer closer to the number 1.

Note #1: If you move the pointer there will be changes on the picture's color. If you move it to the left, Blue will become bolder and brighter. If you move it to the right, the blue color will be decreased and darker. same goes withe the "red" and the "green" options.

After you have moved the pointer, the picture will ad blue color on it. So that is why the picture will be more red-ish.

Do the same technique with  the green and the red option. and you will see the colors become balance and not to yellowish anymore.

Note#2: Here is something that you have to know:
  1. If you add BLUE -> It will reduce YELLOW and increased the BLUE & RED
  2. If you add GREEN -> It will reduce RED and increased the GREEN & YELLOW
  3. If you add RED -> It will reduce GREEN and Increase RED
If you have mastered this method, you can try to fix the color with "color balance" option.

Well, actually the picture is not yellowish anymore. but sometimes, the color become dull. So that is why I usually add "Brightness & Contrast" to make the color become bolder.

The brightness pointer will allow you to control the lighting. If you want to have a darker picture, just move the pointer to the left. Or to the right if you want to have the opposite.

The Contrast control the color and the shadows The higher the numbers (move it to the right) the bolder it gets.

Here are the examples
