Letter D. - Ahmad Dahlan, Gandaria
Do you know about Chef Degan Septoadji Suprijadi? Well, he is one of the most famous celebrity chef in Indonesia. I know that he just opened his cuisine and bar named Letter D. in Gandaria area. Finally, I have the opportunity to visit this place at Jl. Ahmad Dahlan.
I really love the warmth and the welcoming ambiance when I visited this place on the first time. You can see that the sun easily brighten up this beautiful place. I really love the rustic touch on the tapestry, the high ceiling and the grunge texture on their walls. The dynamic wooden chair design really completes this place into a very posh and romantic place.
Letter D. area was divided into two spacious floors. On the first level was dedicated for dining area and the second floor is for the bar.
I am so happy when they give us tempeh as their complementary or welcoming snacks. It taste really delish and really pampering us to the fullest. Well, let us see the dishes!
Yum Nuea IDR 100,000
Thai Beef Salad, Tomato, Cucumber, Coriander, Chili, Lime, Roasted Rice.
For the appetizer, I choose Yum Nuea. The presentation of Yum Nuea or Thai Beef Salad from Letter D. screams for its freshness. The contrast color from coriander, cucumber, and tomato really boost up your appetite. Slices of beef was hidden on the bottom of this dish.
Thai salad was known for it's freshness and tangy flavor. I really love the texture from the meat. It has smooth and wonderful texture and taste. The meat has a hint of sweetness that really stands out on this tangy dish. The crisp texture from the vegetables was completed with the baked rice. Really give you some plus point to start your culinary journey on this place.
Salmon Lodeh IDR 130,000
Slow Roasted Salmon Fillet, Eggplant, Pumpkin, Zucchini, Chili, Galangal, Coconut Broth.
Slow roasted salmon looks like an almost raw fillet.. But the difference is on the textures. It has a melty tender texture and rich flavor. I really love this way of cooking. They vacuumed sealing and cooked in thermal circulator so you will get all the moisture and tenderness of poaching without losing its flavor.
Surprisingly, salmon with coconut broth actually gives a beautiful combination. The vegetables adds some sweetness and texture on the palate.
Eton Mess IDR 50,000
Vanilla Ice Cream, Meringue, Strawberry, Whipped Cream
You have to try Eton Mess from Letted D. But let me tell you the fun fact first!
The word mess may refer to the appearance of the dish, or may be used in the sense of "a quantity of food", particularly "a prepared dish of soft food" or "a mixture of ingredients cooked or eaten together". A recent myth is that Eton mess was first created when a meringue dessert was accidentally crushed by a dog while travelling to picnic at Eton College, but what could be salvaged was served as a crushed meringue with strawberries and cream.
OK, indeed the presentation looks a little bit messy. But for your information, this is my most favorite dessert on this place. It has the richness of textures and flavors.
You can taste the sweet and indulging vanilla ice cream collaborate beautifully with strawberry jam. the sour and the sweet really mixed perfectly together. added with the sweet and crunchy meringue, really makes my culinary journey feels so perfect!
Chocolate Bailey's Mudcake IDR 60,000
Chocolate Bailey's Mud Cake from Letter D. refers to a baked dessert made of dark chocolate cake with Bailey's and dark chocolate icing. Usually, the mud pie has a very moist, crumbly texture that tends not to hold its shape very well. The cake is typically fairly dense, and has bitter-sweet taste of the chocolate. Indeed the mud pie from Letter D. has dense yet crumbly texture, but for me the cake was a little bit too dry for me. That is why they served the mud pie with vanilla sauce to add some moisture into the cake.
The Icing was superb! I really love the dark chocolate flavor combined beautifully with the bailey's aroma and flavor. It gives warmth and indulgent feeling. Served with vanilla sauce,
La Citro IDR 35,000
Mango, Lychee, Blue Curacao Syrup, Sprite.
For the beverages, I really recommend you with this exotic mocktail. The blue curacao syrup was complemented with the tropical fruit such as mango and lychee. The sprite was added to boost up the refreshment. Really a nice combination of flavor and deliciousness.
Overall, in my opinion, this is a MUST VISIT place if you happened in the Gandaria or Ahmad Dahlan area. Their venue was beautiful, the dishes was outstanding and their service was top notch!
Such a mesmerizing place that i have visited in the late of February.
