Little Taiwan - Kota Kasablanka

Might be a little late to write this review. I went to Little Taiwan at Kota Kasablanka last August. It was started when I get tweeted by Little Taiwan's social media to come and visit. So, I went there to try their delicious meals and drinks.






Located at the Kota Kasablanka’s Lower Ground, Little Taiwan’s outlet looks so humble, nice and warm. With pastel green as their sofas and chairs and giant posters on their wall, the outlet looks very beautiful and will make you want to stay there a little bit longer. 

The outlet looks so friendly. With bright outlet, customers can take a peek from the outside and can see their cleanliness. Little Taiwan is a great place to have lunch with your relatives, dinner with your family, or just to hang around with your friends.







Their friendly server will came and escort you to your table. They will leave you for a moment, so you can take a look at their menus. Just like its name, Little Taiwan serves you with Taiwanese delicacies to your table. But not just the foods, but they also serve you with unique beverages and snow desserts. 

I asked to the server for their recommendations. I am amazed with their comprehension about the menus, they fluently guide me to the perfect dish that suits my taste and they are:






Braised Beef Noodle IDR 47,000

The noodle is perfectly cooked. It was so smooth and silky. Served inside their delicious soup and combined with braised beef, some carrot, white carrot and sprinkled with shredded chives.

The braised beef is so tender and juicy. Really love the textures and the flavor. But the most delicious is their soup. The broth was made from selected beef bones and brewed over 48 hours. That is why the soup has rich flavor. It is indeed a must try item in Little Taiwan.

Oh I almost forgot, the noodles are served with a small plate of shredded vegetable. I really like it! It has a wonderful sourness, so refreshing and addicting. 






Cream Milk Roasted oolong Tea With Pearl IDR 28,000

This beverage has a beautiful presentation. They pour the oolong tea and cream milk so they have beautiful gradation. They also put pearls inside the drink to add some textures. 

They also put the glass into bowl full of ice, to keep it cool. 

The smooth and milky cream combined with smoky oolong tea, in fact it is so refreshing. I really like the exquisite taste. The pearls make the drinks have the richness in texture. You can chew the pearl while drinking… what a wonderful and beautiful drink!





Cherry Snow Ice IDR 30,000
Milk snow ice with QQ Balls, cherry, mandarin orange and rose grain syrup.

For the dessert, I chose Cherry Snow Ice. This sweet snow ice is so smooth and melts in your mouth. They also put fruits like orange and dark cherry. To put some flavor in it, they added rose grain syrup. The most interesting ingredient in this dessert is the QQ balls.... it pops in your mouth and spread the unique flavor in your mouth. What a treat!

For me, this dessert is too sweet. But for those who have sweet tooth, this dessert is very fit for you. 



Overall, my experience at Little Taiwan is very satisfying. They have wonderful dishes that can melt your heart, cozy atmosphere that will make you want to stay as long as you want, and revitalizing drinks and desserts. So, what are you waiting for?

UNION - Street Gallery Pondok Indah Mall

You might know about UNION the brasserie, bakery and bar that quite happening in Plaza Senayan. Now, they spread their wings wider by opening their second outlet at Street Gallery - Pondok Indah Mall.

UNION is located at the Street Gallery - Pondok Indah Malls' Ground Floor. Because of their strategic location, you can easily find it right at the corner of Street Gallery.

Nowadays, there is lot of dining placed named their self as a brasserie. For your information, brasserie is a type of French restaurant with a relaxed, upscale setting, which serves single dishes and other meals. Different from bistro, brasserie is often to have professional service, printed menus, and traditionally white linen. For the most obvious thing, if you look a little closer to your table, you will find out that they are using the "real flower". That makes UNION is one step higher than bistros, cafes and other restaurants.

The word brasserie is also French for "brewery" and, by extension, "the brewing business". The term is often used in the United Kingdom applied to small metropolitan restaurants, usually in city centres, however it generally has no connection with brewing.





 

When you arrive to this place, the host will greet you and escort you to the available table. But don't be surprised if you only have 1 hour to stay on this place. I think it was UNION's policy for dine-in customers.

You will find that UNION’s environment is beautiful. They are using the terrace concept, so it is quite a semi open-air. The ceiling is almost similar with E&O at Menara Rajawali. No wonder, the owner of this brasserie is same group as E&O.

The decoration is modest but classy; they use black and white as their dominant colors. Posters and frames was hanged on the walls and make this place feels homier and cozier. But too bad, because of their semi open-air environment, for some areas, the heat from the outside is more intense than the air cooler from the building.










Just like its name, UNION Brasserie, Bakery and Bar is serving you with their tantalizing french food, diverse pastry and alluring beverages. Well, you can find UNION's menu on their website or you can see it above (The menu is for September 2013)




While you are waiting for your order to come out, UNION will treat us with their homemade bread. To tell you the truth, firstly i thought it was a Ciabatta. But after i saw the shape and texture, I start to doubt myself.

Well, the homemade loaf was warmly served and accompanied with smooth and slick delicious butter. The bread was so soft and a little bit savory. By adding the butter, the taste becomes wonderful and will make you craving for more. But even though UNION is generous enough by offering us to add more of this loaf, my friends and I had to refuse it. So we can have our main course while our stomach is not too full.






Lime Juice IDR 25,000
This homemade lime juice have a very humble presentation. But when you have a zip on it, you will be surprised with its' sourness. The taste is so shocking refreshing, served with a mini cup of liquid sugar so you can adjust the sweetness to make it perfect for your taste.

Lychee Ice Tea IDR 35,000
Tea with lychee flavor is often indulging us with their fresh and sweet taste. This flavored tea is the most suitable beverage for those who want to quench their thirst from Jakarta’s heat. Served with lychee fruit, will makes your day become jollier.

Ice lemon Tea IDR 35,000
Lemon tea from UNION is freshly made from lemon fruits. It is also shockingly sour and refreshing. I have got full with their presentation once again. Usually, if you ad lemon on your tea, the color become paler. But UNION’s lemon tea have a dark brown color, which is why I never see it coming as a stunningly refreshing beverage.





US T-Bone Steak, French Fries, Roast Vegetables IDR 225,000
The portion is quite large and satisfying for those who seeks quantity. I really love their roasted garlic and asparagus. The dressing is wonderful and very delicious. Served with French Fries next to it, will fulfill all of your needs.

The T-bone cooked beautifully, the meat was tender, although not as tender as I hope.





Crispy Skin Pork Belly IDR 130,000
With Pomme Puree & Honey Mustard Vinaigrette

Four-sliced pork belly was put on the top of UNION's pomme pure. Surrounded by Honey mustard vinaigrette and sprinkled with sliced chives makes these dish look stunningly beautiful.

The pork belly was beautifully cooked; it was sweet and juicy. The honey mustard vinaigrette is very delicious. With silky potato puree, crispy skin and soft pork belly makes the dish have richness in scent, taste and texture. Obviously the dish is really a "must try" item in UNION. It makes my heart soar!






Filet Mignon Rossini IDR 295,000
Black Angus Filet Mignon w/ seared foie gras & Black Truffle Sauce

To tell you the truth, this was my first time to eat Filet Mignon and foie gras. The filet mignon is outstandingly tender. The meat is perfectly cooked (medium) and easily cut. The foie gras is also delicious; it melts in your mouth.

This Filet Mignon is also served with potato (you can choose between french fries or mashed potato), garden vegetables and dressing. For the dressing, you can choose between Au Jus, Cafe de Paris, or Soy Mirin Sauce.




Red Velvet cake 55,000
I would like to introduce you to the most famous dessert in UNION, Red Velvet. This four layers maroon colored cake is outstandingly seducing. Their beautiful colors and alluring presentation is already makes my mouth full of drool.

What makes this dessert is so famous among the sweet tooth-er? First, the appearance! Second one is the taste, it has a pinch of rum flavor on this cake and then the third one is the textures. The fluffy and moist from the cake, the soft and creamy from the cream, and the crunchy from the nuts makes this this is full of textures. What a sinfully indulgent cake! (I order one to take away thehe..)






Caramel Peanut IDR 35,000
UNION introduce us with their 3 variants of Flaky Doughnut; Cinnamon Sugar, Chocolate Vanilla, and Caramel Peanut. Because Chef Dominique Ansel has trademarked "Cronut", so UNION named their croisant-doughnut as flaky donut .Too bad, I cannot taste them all, because for the Cinnamon sugar and chocolate vanilla is already sold out.

Different from the others, UNION's Caramel Peanut Flaky Doughnut have a long form of doughnut. Honestly, I am a little bit upset about this Flaky Doughnut. It looks like that this flaky doughnut is composed of 4 dough that came from the other donuts' hole and they just stuck it with a skewer. They dip it with caramel and sprinkled the peanuts.

Actually, I really love the layer of this doughnut. You can see each and every layers that this doughnut has. It is crunchy and flaky from the outside and soft from the inside. The taste is delicious and the texture is great, but I just think that this flaky doughnut tasted a little bit oily.





Their service might need a little bit improvement. The host is the front liner of the brasserie; you can asked them to be more friendly and concerned about the customer. But the waiter is very friendly and helpful. Although there is some mistakes on the bill (and we have just noticed after we already back to the office) Mr. Irwan (the manager or supervisor) apologized and immediately take care of the problem. I really admire his initiative and dexterity to provide solutions. This is the best way how to treat a customer. We know that there is nobody perfect, but the solution that they provides make it perfect. I hope that the other brasserie/restaurant/cafe/etc. can be modeled and take lessons from UNION's services.

Overall, it is indeed a wonderful and mesmerizing place to visit. For those who want to visit this place, you better reserve it first.

The Oyster on "Beyond Oyster & Champagne" Keraton Lounge was freshly imported from France. The oyster itself is a grade two. Grades from oyster indicates their size; the smaller the grade number, the bigger the oyster.

Keraton Lounge's seafood combination was served with 3 kind of dressings; tomato sauce, mustard, red wine sauce. For you who cannot eat raw oyster, Keraton Lounge will serve you the baked Oyster with spinach and hollandaise sauce.

Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve NV Champagne


Champagne is produced from grapes grown in the Champagne region of France following rules that demand secondary fermentation of the wine in the bottle to create carbonation. In some countries, champagne is often to be called as sparkling wine. The primary grapes used in the production of Champagne are Pinot noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier.

Why Billecart - Salmon?
The name was founded in 1818 with the marriage of Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon.

What is Brut?
It was indicate the sweetness level of the champagne.
To describe the sweetness of the bottled champagne, they often to use with this kind of terms:

  • Extra Brut (less than 6 grams of residual sugar per liter)
  • Brut (less than 12 grams)
  • Extra Dry (between 12 and 17 grams)
  • Sec (between 17 and 32 grams)
  • Demi-sec (between 32 and 50 grams)
  • Doux (50 grams)

The most common style today is Brut, although throughout the 19th century and into the early 20th century Champagne was generally much sweeter than it is today.

What is Reserve NV?
Reserve wine is a term given to a specific wine to imply that is of a higher quality than usual. usually, the winemaker would  "reserve" some of their best wine. So to make it short, reserve is a wine that has been aged before being sold, or both.

In the NV Champagne or  "Non Vintage" Champagne, a certain amount of aged still wine is used for blending with still wine of the youngest vintage, before this blended base wine undergoes second fermentation in bottle to become sparkling Champagne. This aged still wine is called reserve wine, and this practice is meant to ensure that a certain Champagne house's non-vintage product has a consistent style over the years.






The appearance of Billecart-salmon Brut Reserve is yellow pale colour, and consists of only slowly rising bubbles. The scent, you will detect a mature aroma of fresh fruit and ripe pears with a floral freshness. The Billecart Brut Reserve is a light, fine and harmonious champagne. Billecart Brut Reserve and the oysters pair well together.

Note: Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve has 12%ABV (Alcohol by Volume) so, drink wisely!
