First of all, I would like to congratulate Korean Food Foundation (KFF) for the Korean Restaurant Guide: Indonesia Malaysia book launching, last December.

The book will introduce us to the top 20 Korean restaurants in DKI Jakarta, Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The most interesting part is, they use Bahasa, English and Korean! So the book was targeted for local citizen, Korean, and expatriates that have interest in Korean Food.

KFF cooperated with local culinary critics, from Indonesia was represented by Bondan Winarno, the author of the best-selling book 100 Makanan Tradisional Indonesia Mak Nyus and from Malaysia there were Alice Yong & Chris Wan the famous journalist/columnist.

The book also comes with a pocketbook version, which contains a summary of the main book and published in a portable size. This book is also available in the form of mobile application software that can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android platform with the application name "Korean Restaurant Guide".

For IOS:

For Android:

This application can also be downloaded easily on the website of the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) Indonesia in http://id.korean-culture.org.

I really love the presentation. The Korean Restaurant Guide is friendly user and has a wonderful graphics.

On the main page, you will find the distribution by region; Jakarta-Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur-Malaysia. But if you touch the "STYLE" Button on the upper right, you will be shown with the distribution based on the criteria of the restaurant. When you choose one of the criteria, you will find the list from Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur area.

The Scraps button was really helpful. If you have interest in one or more restaurants, you can pinned up and put it on scraps. So you do not need to search it again on the search button, just touch the scraps icon and find it there.

On this page, you will find the top 20 Korean Restaurant in Jakarta.

If you touch the name or the picture of the restaurant, you will be directed to the page that shown pictures of their recommended dish, brief about the restaurant and reviews, restaurant's info, restaurant's address and their locations. The article was beautifully written. Really love how they arrange their words into beautiful sentences that easily to understand and really informatives.

On the top of the pages, you can find buttons that will lead you to the previous page, adjust your font sizes, select language, and button to add this restaurant into scraps.

Just like I have said before, the article has 3 kinds of language that can be choose. It was Bahasa, English and Korean.

On the bottom of the page, you will find the restaurant's contact. Lovely made so you can interactively push the telephone number to give them a call, push the address or the maps to get the directions, or just go to their website to learn more about the restaurant.

Another thing that really helpful for foreign people or tourists, if you touch the price range, you will be directed to special page that will shown the currency exchange rate.

On the search page, you can write the restaurant's name or the dish that you want to eat. It was really useful and really nice. You do not have to read all the articles to find which restaurant that served the best bibimbap in Jakarta.

The map is also informatives, it shows you the top 20 Korean Restaurant's location. If you touch the upper right button, you will be shown where is your location. So you can try to eat at the nearest recommended Korean Restaurant.

One thing for sure, the most interesting feature is the menu's page. On this page you will know all of the Korean dishes from A to Z. You will know what is Bibimbap, Dubu Kimchi, Galbi Tang, Topokki and many others. You even can find gochujang here!

Fun Fact: Gochujang is a traditional condiment made of red pepper powder, glutinous rice, powdered meju, salt, and fermented in earthenware jars. It has bright red in color and taste very spicy.
Gochujang sauce is often to be used on many Korean dish. To bad, they didn't show us the recipe here.
Oh, on this feature's explanation used 4 kinds of languages; Indonesian, Malay, English and Korean.

Last page on this Korean Restaurant Guide: Indonesia Malaysia, is the page for Korean Food Foundation

Oh I have downloaded the application on my tab, I have studied it, checked it and examined it for small period of time and I have found something that really jawdropping.

So this is what I have just found!

I have found some misspelling words and addresses. Indeed, it was small errors. But for names, language and addresses it must written with no mistake.

- I -

Misspelling for language (only on Iphone) KOREAN was written KOERAN.
I have found it only on my Iphone, but when I check it on the android it was right.
It was a small typo error, but for me it was crucial and a ridiculous

- II -

Wrong address for Bibigo Address
Pacific Plaza Lt. 4
Jl. Jendral Sudirman Kav. 52-53, Sudirman Central Business District
Jakarta Selatan

It should be
Pacific Place Lt. 4
Jl. Jenderal Sudirman Kav. 52-53, Sudirman Central Business District
Jakarta Selatan

[note]
It was Pacific Place not Pacific Plaza
Jenderal Sudirman, not Jendral Sudirman
Or you can wrote Jl. Jend. Sudirman like the other address.

- III -

Misspelling for Mr BBQ
It was written:
Garding Batavia Blok LC 08 No. 36
Jl. Boulevard Barat. Kelapa Garding
Jakarta Utara

It should be
Gading Batavia Blok LC 08 No. 36
Jl. Boulevard Barat. Kelapa Gading
Jakarta Utara

[note]
It was Kelapa Gading and Gading Batavia, not Kelapa Garding and Garding Batavia

- IV -

Misspelling for Arang 22 Address.
It was written:
Jl. Kawasn niaga terpadu sudirman Lot.8
Jl. Jend sudirman Kav. 52-53
Jakarta Selatan

It should be
Kawasan Niaga Terpadu Sudirman Lot 8
Jl Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52-53
Jakarta Selatan

or
Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD) Lot 8
Jl Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52-53
Jakarta Selatan

[note]
Fristly it was Kawasan not Kawsn.
You do not need to write Jl. in the front of Kawasan Niaga Terpadu Sudirman
But you can wrote it Sudirman Central Business District or SCBD, because you have already wrote it for one of your restaurant's address.

- V -

Wrong Address for Han Gang Restaurant
It was written:
Pacific Place Level 24 SCBD
Jl.Jend Sudirman Kav. 52-53
Jakarta Selatan

It should be
Pacific Place Level 5 SCBD
Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 52-53
Jakarta Selatan

[note]
Pacific Place is a mall, indeed it was connected to the Ritz-Carlton hotel and offers fresh and exciting developments for its upscale shopping center, luxurious apartments, and office tower. But for Han Gang, I don't think it was situated on level 24.

- VI -

Misspelling for Kana address
It was written:
Jl. Jend. Sudirman No.1
Landmark Bldg. Graund Floor
Jakarta Central

It should be
Jl. Jend. Sudirman No. 1
Landmark Building, Ground Floor
Jakarta Pusat

Or
The Landmark Tower A, Ground Floor, No.1
Jl. Jend. Sudirman Kav. 1
Jakarta Pusat

[note]
it was "ground" floor not "graund" floor

- VII -

Wrong Address for Seorae
it was written:
Ruko Garden House Blok B No. 19
Jl. Raya Pantai Indah Kapuk
Jakarta Barat

It should be
Ruko Garden House Blok B No. 19
Jl. Raya Pantai Indah Kapuk
Jakarta Utara

[note]
Pantai Indah Kapuk is in Jakarta Utara, not Jakarta Barat

Here is some bugs that I have found when I am using my Tab for this application.

  • When I went to the restaurant's page, it was truncated and not automatically adjusted to the screen
  • On the bottom page, i have found that the restaurant's address looks accumulate and sloppy. But the appearance will be much better if you adjust the size of the fonts.
  • When I touched the "adjust font size" button, the background looks colorful and different when I touch the "select language" button.
  • The sub menu for the "font size" and "language" button were not precisely below the button.

For closure, I just want to say that this application has a very great potential. But it was poorly executed and prematurely made. There are still many mistake and bugs.

Another thing that come into my mind, what if there is a new Korean restaurant that deserved to be included on the top 20; One of the restaurant was closed or moved to another place, will they update the list?

For the input, it will be much helpful if they put the recipe into the menu. Because, it will be my other reason to install this application a little bit longer.

KFF also cooperated with Indonesian food blogger to review this application.

Well, If you curious about the TOP 20 Korean Food in Jakarta or in Malaysia, you better download it fast. By downloading this application, you can add to your 2015 resolution by visiting the Top 20 or even the Top 40 Korean restaurant in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur.

Well, that is just my thought and my review for Korean Restaurant Guide: Indonesia Malaysia mobile application.

Have a great day and Godspeed,
