The most interesting part from Ismaya Catering Co. is they have a cafe and gallery at Grand Indonesia. OK, I do admit, I wrote this review a little bit too late. I was invited by Ismaya Catering Co. for their newest menus food tasting. It was held on 24 February 2014. (I am terribly sorry...) Well, to abbreviate time, here is their new menus that they have served since March 2014.

EASY BITES MENU

Nachos with Beef Chili Con Carne IDR 45,000

In Spanish, the word chile refers to a “chili pepper”, and carne means “meat”. Chili con carne, more commonly known in American English as simply “chili”, is a spicy stew containing chili peppers, meat (beef), tomatoes and often beans. The variant recipes provoke disputes among aficionados, some of whom insist that the word “chili” applies only to the basic dish. Chili is a frequent dish for cook-offs. It is also used as an ingredient in a number of other dishes.

This Nachos were served with 3 kinds of different sauce:

- Guacamole -
Guacamole, is an avocado-based dip that originated with the Aztecs in Mexico. It is traditionally made by mashing ripe avocados and sea salt with a molcajete (mortar and pestle).

- Salsa -
Salsa is the Spanish term for sauce, and in English-speaking countries usually refers to the often tomato-based, hot sauces typical of Mexican cuisine, particularly those used as dips.

- Sour Cream -
Sour cream is a dairy product obtained by fermenting a regular cream with certain kinds of lactic acid bacteria. The bacterial culture, which is introduced either deliberately or naturally, sours and thickens the cream. Its name stems from the production of lactic acid by bacterial fermentation, which is called souring. The taste of sour cream is only mildly sour.

I really like the textures, Crunchy tortilla corn chips combined beautifully with the freshness of the ingredients and the dipping sauce. It tasted so fresh and quite good for appetizer. I really admire the salsa sauce, it screams for freshness. The guacamole was nice but the sour cream is a little bit too tame for me.

Mexican Cheese Quesadilla IDR 48.000

The specific origin for the quesadilla was in colonial Mexico. The quesadilla as a food changed and evolved over many years as people experimented with different variations of it. Quesadilla is a flour tortilla or a corn tortilla filled with a savory mixture containing cheese, other ingredients, and/or vegetables, then folded in half to form a half-moon shape. This dish originated in Mexico, and the name is derived from tortilla and the Spanish word for cheese queso.

I really love this Quesadilla. I really love the texture of the tortilla that combined with the fresh ingredients. It taste so fresh and indulging, really love to chew it and feel the party on my mouth. Really a recommended menu from Ismaya Catering Co. Oh, this quesadilla was also served with three Ismaya Catering Co.'s special dipping sauces which is: salsa sauce, guacamole and sour cream.

Nasi Goreng Kecombrang IDR 45,000

Kecombrang (Etlingera elatior) also known as Torch Ginger is a species of herbaceous perennial plant. The showy pink flowers are used in decorative arrangements while the flower buds are an important ingredient in the Nonya dish laksa. In North Sumatra, the flower buds are used for a dish called arsik ikan mas.

In Karo, it is known as asam cekala (asam meaning 'sour'), and the flower buds, but more importantly the ripe seed pods, which are packed with small black seeds, are an essential ingredient of the Karo version of sayur asam, and are particularly suited to cooking fresh fish.

The rice was fried along with the kecombrang, chicken, red onion and lemongrass. Served with pickles, fresh vegetable and sunny side up egg, makes this dish become hard to resist. To tell you the truth, I really surprised when I taste the kecombrang's flavour. It is so unique and I really have to eat it for several times so I can describe its taste. It has an unique aroma and a rough taste. Actually, I kind a like it. the roughness of kecombrang's taste blend beautifully with a perfect seasoning for the fried rice. But maybe for some people, Kecombrang's taste a little bit weird.

Soto Tangkar with Jasmine Rice IDR 45,000

Soto Tangkar is an authentic food from Betawi, Indonesia. The difference between Soto Tangkar with Soto Betawi is from the meat. Soto tangkar often to use ribs.

Fun Fact: Back then, Betawi people can only afford to buy ribs because the price is low and usually the other parts from the cow has already taken by the Dutch colonial society. But now, because one and other reasons, you can find soto tangkar that use innards, other parts of meat and satay. Here comes the funny part, one of the reasons they use innards nowadays is because the price for ribs was too expensive.
I really love the consistency of the soup. They use coconut milk to thicken the soup and to make it more savory. The herbs was wonderfully blend with the other ingredients. It taste really good! But for me every time that I eat soto, I often to add sweet soy sauce to make it perfect for my taste. You can taste a beautiful harmony of savory, sourness and sweetness that blends together and make a wonderful symphony. This Soto Tangkar was served accompanied with rice, emping and sambal.

Molten Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream IDR 40.000

To tell you the truth, I kind a surprised when this molten chocolate cake was served. It came into my mind, is this Ismaya Catering Co.'s new menu or they just want to try it for sure. Because, molten chocolate cake has already become a common dessert for other restaurants. Well, it was a decent flourless chocolate cake that have a firm texture outside and liquidy texture inside. Accompanied with vanilla ice cream to lift the diversity of flavour, texture and temperature.

Singkong Belanda IDR 32.000

I really love the idea to combine casava with caramel. Ismaya Catering Co. served this caramel casava by sprinkled the cheddar cheese. I really love the warm and sweet fragrance from this dish, and when you take a bite, you will be indulged by its crunchy texture from the casava's exterior and soft on the inside. You will also be pampered by its richness of flavor, you can taste sweet from the caramel and savory from the cheese. This was my favorite!

Virgin Apple Mojito & Red Melon Berry Refresher IDR 35.000 each

You know what, it is really hard to find a virgin mojito that suit into my palate. Well, Ismaya Catering Co. successfully make me fall in love with this drink. It was so refreshing and delicious. You can taste the sweet apple with a hint of sourness from the lemon and cold sensation from the mint that will give you a refreshment to your mind and body.

Too bad, I am not a biggest fan of watermelon, To tell you the truth, the red color and the strawberry at the Red Melon Berry Refresher is a little bit deceiving. I thought it is gonna be a refreshingly sour, but when I tasted it, the watermelon is more superior than the berry, so it was too sweet for me.
