Have you ever heard about Boga Group? Yup Boga Group is one of the TOP Indonesian food service industry. Boga Group is a the flagship company from Bakerzine, pepper Lunch, Ten Ten, Paradise Dinasty, Paradise Inn, Master Wok and  Canton Paradise. Established on 2002, Boga Group's opened their first Bakerzin outlet at Cilandak Town Square, and in December 2010, The first Ten Ten's outlet was opened at Pondok Indah Mall.

Nowadays, you can find Ten Ten Tempura House at Basement Level, Plaza Indonesia.

Actually, Ten Ten's name was come from the first vocabulary of Tempura (On Japanese letters Tempura was written as 天ぷら or Tenpura).

Tempura is a Japanese dish of seafood or vegetables that have been battered and deep fried. For your information, the recipe for tempura was introduced to Japan by Portuguese Jesuit missionaries particularly active in the city of Nagasaki also founded by the Portuguese, during the sixteenth century (1549). Originally, tempura was a popular food eaten at street venders called 'yatai'(屋台) since the Genroku era.

The word "tempura", or the technique of dipping fish and vegetables into a batter and frying them, comes from the word "tempora", a Latin word meaning "times", "time period" used by both Spanish and Portuguese missionaries to refer to the Lenten period or Ember Days, Fridays, and other Christian holy days. The idea that the word "tempura" may have been derived from the Portuguese noun tempero, meaning a condiment or seasoning of any kind, or from the verb temperar, meaning "to season" has not been substantiated. However, the Japanese language could easily have assumed the word "tempero" as is, without changing any vowels as the Portuguese pronunciation in this case is similar to the Japanese.

Tempura's batter is made of cold water and soft wheat flour, Eggs, baking soda or baking powder, starch, oil, and/or spices may also be added. Tempura batter is traditionally mixed in small batches using chopsticks for only a few seconds, leaving lumps in the mixture that, along with the cold batter temperature, result in the unique fluffy and crisp tempura structure when cooked. The batter is often kept cold by adding ice, or by placing the bowl inside a larger bowl with ice in it. Overmixing the batter will result in activation of wheat gluten, which causes the flour mixture to become chewy and dough-like when fried.

FUN FACT I: What is the difference between Tempura and Furai?
Tempura generally does not use breadcrumbs (panko) in the coating. Generally, fried foods which are coated with breadcrumbs are considered to be furai, Japanese-invented Western-style deep fried foods, such as tonkatsu or ebi furai (fried prawn).

i really love how Ten Ten decorated their environment. With wooden element all around, Ten Ten successfully brings the homey and relaxing atmosphere into their outlet. With cute trinkets on the shelves, makes this restaurant become more cheerful yet comfortable.

Ten Ten Tempura House do not have anything to hide. They have put an see through glass to separate the dine with the kitchen areas, so you can see their cleanliness and tidiness.

OK, lets take a look at Ten Ten's menu:


- APPETIZERS -



Tempura Nori IDR 11,000

Ten Ten will give you this tempura nori for free if you ordered their main dish, but if you just want to eat this snack-appetizer menu, you can have it with just IDR 11,000. This Tempura Nori was quite entertaining, they have a wonderful texture and taste. The sweet and savory combined beautifully with the crunchy texture. You can make your mouth busy while you are waiting for your order to come out.





Ten Ten House Salad IDR 28,000

The first salad that I want to introduce it to you is Ten Ten House Salad. Ten Ten put ebi, ika, ohba and onion tempura on the top of fresh salad and homemade dressing. The salad screamed its freshness, complemented by the crunchy texture from the tempura batter and the sour sauce make this dish perfect.





Chicken Karaage Salad IDR 25,000

If Ten Ten House Salad is topped with assorted tempura, this salad was topped with chicken karaage. Yup, the salad is actually the same, Ten Ten just put a different topping. Do you know what the difference between tempura with karaage?

FUN FACT II: Karaage (唐揚げ or 空揚げ or から揚げ) is a Japanese cooking technique in which various foods — most often chicken, but also other meat and fish — are deep fried in oil. Small pieces of the food are marinated in a mix of soy sauce, garlic, and/or ginger, then lightly coated with a seasoned wheat flour or potato starch mix, and fried in a light oil - similar to the preparation of tempura.

You can taste the crunchy texture and savory taste of well seasoned karaage. I really like karaage, and Ten Ten gave the karaage with generous amount. Love this dish!





Kani Korokke IDR 28,000


Korokke is the Japanese name for a deep-fried dish originally related to a Portuguese dish, the croquette. What is the special thing that Ten Ten's Kani Koroke had? Actually, their korokke was mixed with truffle oil. Some people sad it was too oily, but to tell you the truth, it has a wonderful texture that melts in your mouth. With generous shredded kani stick, Ten Ten know how to pampered their customers.

FUN FACT III: korokke was made from mashed potato that shaped into tubes and covered with flour, eggs and then bread crumbs. That is why you can taste their wonderful crisp texture.


- MAIN DISH -



Tendon Black Pepper IDR 45,000

What is Tendon? It was Tempura Donburi! So, you can find a diverse kind of tempura above the hot rice. I kind a surprised when I found out that one of their 5 different sauce was black pepper sauce. I really admire Ten Ten's boldness to give an unique dish to surprised their customer; But the most interesting part is, It was really fit!

The black pepper sauce compliment the dish. It really give a new flavor of tempura. You can taste black pepper's sweet-spicy hot flavor.

This Tendon was served with Ten Ten's delicious miso soup.




Tenbara IDR 50,000

Well, Tenbara or tembara is Ten Ten's signature dish. a donburi dan topped with assorted deep fried tempura, poured with Ten Ten's special sauce and sprinkled with shredded nori and sesame. You can taste a diverse kind of textures, flavors and aroma on this dish. I really love it, and I am craving for more right now.

Oh, for your information, every donburi that you have ordered at Ten Ten, complimented with miso soup as its side dish.




Tempura Curry Ramen IDR 55,000

Tempura with curry is a perfect combination. Ten Ten use ramen for the carbs, and it fits beautifully. For the curry, I thought that I will find strong aroma and flavor just like curry in general. But Ten Ten's curry soup is a little bit tamed, the herbs and the aroma was not very pungent; it taste really good and really fit with my taste.

You can find a diverse kind of tempura on this dish; such as shrmp, pumpkin, onion and mitsoba. It added an unique texture and taste in every bites.






Tempura Yaki Udon IDR 55,000

Just like the etymology of Ten Ten, tempura is their speciality. Just like this Tempura Yaki Udon. This fried udon was topped with a diverse kinds of tempura and shredded dried bonito. I really like the texture of Ten Ten's udon, so fluffy yet delicious. I really love their soy based sauce, it taste wonderfully delicious.

Oh, you can also find a shrimp, onion, pumpkin and mitsoba leaf on their tempura. The tempura itself add a beautiful textures on the dish. Salute!



- DESSERTS -




Red Velvet Surprise IDR 25,000


For me, this red velvet cake was a little bit too dark, so I just noticed it was a red velvet after I cut it and see the redish color that shown on its edges. This Red velvet surprise was served with one scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and sprinkled with nut crumbs. When you cut it into half, you will be find the surprise that mentioned above, you will find cream cheese inside.

The texture is a little heavy but it was really moist. The sweetness was really fit into my taste, overall I was OK.




Matcha Cheese Pound Cake IDR 25,000


For this dessert, you can find one scoop of matcha ice cream, with diced cheese pound cake, topped with ogura and milk on the side. Note: you should poured the milk bit by bit, unless you like a mushy pound cake.

It taste really wonderful! How can I described this dish... Well, it explodes in my mouth! you can find a lot of texture and flavor that compliment each other on this dish, one of the must try item on dessert list.





Sweet Crispy Fondue IDR 25,000

OK, I also put this dessert into one of my "must try" item at Ten Ten. You will find assorted deep fried fruit tempuras with chocolate dipping sauce. It is something new and unique thing that shame to be missed. You can find red and green apple, strawberry and pear tempuras that has a very unique characteristics of flavor and textures. Complemented with a chocolate dipping sauce, will added more value not to missed this dish.





Panna Cotta IDR 25,000

Well, Last but not least the most recommended dish on Ten Ten was this panna cotta. You can find 3 different kinds of flavor on this panna cotta set. There were Rum Raisin, Matcha and Black Sesame.

Once again, I really admire Ten Ten's creativities. For your information, my most favorite desserts besides ice cream is panna cotta, and Ten Ten successfully makes my jaw drop by pairing panna cotta with Japanese characteristics such as black sesame and matcha.

One thing for sure, the panna cotta's texture was perfect. A lot of restaurants fails with the texture, but Ten Ten's panna cotta is so perfect!

You already know about the deliciousness of rum raisin, so I rather concentrate to explain the other 2 panna cotta, which is black sesame and matcha. For the black sesame, you can find a silky texture of panna cotta with a strong taste and aroma of black sesame. The black sesame bitterness combined perfectly with the sweetness of panna cotta. Well, black sesame is my most favorite panna cotta.

The other one is the matcha with ogura panna cotta. The strong taste of matcha and its bitterness was tamed with ogura's and panna cotta's sweetness. The ogura adds some texture on this dish, and it become lovely!

This is my favorite dish on Ten Ten!
